425: CROSSAN ON GOD

Zingcreed thought for the day:

God is dead, “Christ” is a human invention, so only the historical and metaphorical Jesus remains.

John Dominic Crossan is one of the world’s leading progressive Christian scholars. He works with the Jesus Seminar and with Marcus Borg, both of whom feature frequently in Zingcreed.

Ten years ago he was asked who God was for him.

After a moment of deep silence he replied that he believed all human beings to be hard wired to seek out some form of ultimacy in their lives and that once they have found that which holds such meaning for them, they name it and then can relate to it .
i.e. we are individually responsible for seeking out our own sense of ultimacy.

I thought that was worth reprinting.
